Agora Experiments Exhibition

Agora InCotroceni

"AGORA INCOTROCENI" aims to become an exercise that reunites the community in a public piazza, where the neighbors have the chance to meet and plan its evolution. „AGORA INCOTROCENI” is set to transform a public space for a day by conferring it a new identity, generated by cultural, architectural and town planning activities. Starting from the essence of the agora concept, defined as “the central point of the city, where the civic life of the ancient Greek cites was concentrating”, „AGORA INCOTROCENI” became for 1 day the community center in the Controceni neighborhood, sustaining the educatio...

MoMi

Context MoMi is a modular dwelling unit designed for living as much as possible outside the house itself. Through its condensed form, MoMi occupies as little space as possible while fostering delight of nature and connection to the garden around. This garden becomes the board where the great living game happens. MoMi is a critical commentary on developments on the outskirts of cities that, while promising a direct contact with 'nature', end up offering living alternatives in very large houses (that often occupy all the available land). At the same time, these houses and ensemble...

ReHydrant

ZSÓFIA ZÉTÉNYI – ReHydrant **CONTEXT** **Water in the City** Access to drinking water in public spaces is a current urban challenge. Apart from the waste-issue related to bottled water, the key to a healthy and sustainable environment is enabling citizens to quench their thirst in any situation. Tap-water consumption has drastically dropped in the past few decades in Europe even though potable water has to fulfill strict sanitary regulations. ReHydrant Project not only aims to solve water accessibility in the city but also tries to increase the popular...

Superhill, Superhouse and the Superspace

2014 The SUPER series is an ongoing experiment in one of Ljubljana's oldest socialist neighbouhoods, Savsko naselje. Since 2014, the project is slowly progressing every year. 2014: The mother of a local basketball star who tragically passed away comissioned us to renew an old basketball court in the neighbourhood. Together with local musician Rok Terkaj we initiated a series of workshops with children from the 7th grade, from the elementary school which is located in the vicinity of the playground. Along with them, we developed ideas and formed a plan for the renovation of the basketba...

Optimists

The fountain on Ljubljana’s Museum square was empty for ten years. Then an invitation from the Triennial of Contemporary Art U3 came. «Optimists» intervention revealed the potential of the space, so the owner of the square – The Ministry of Culture – reactivated the fountain in the summer of 2014. We placed four small sailboats in the renovated fountain. They contributed to improve climate on the overheated Museum square. The sailboats offered shadow, unusual and intimate seating and served as an invitation for socialising, playing and enjoying the rich cultural programme of the Tri...

The Diver

Context “The Diver – Restaurant Experience” was a social experiment about strangers who get confronted with an unusual dinner experience. Staging a fancy pop-up restaurant in several vacancies as for example in an old Soviet broadcasting centre in Berlin was and still is a very hip thing to do… but we intended to interfere in our culinary play. When our guests got their bills, there were finally challenged with our true ambitions. Our unconventional vegetarian 4 course menu was made out of waste food. We offer the exclusive access to a normally secretive world of an extraordinary...

Kitchen 21

The # Küche 21 – 1:1 project created a new impulse on the market of a remote subcenter of Vienna, mixing different target groups and activating public space with the production of an architectural intervention: A kitchen that works as a public platform on the market, allowing for cooking events with food directly from the market, spontaneous gatherings and various low-threshold events for the local community organized by students and locals. At the moment it is still in use as described, but due to its temporary nature the permit is valid for two more weeks. Currently I am organ...

Festival Center Steirischer Herbst

Context Every year since 1968, the contemporary art festival steirischer herbst occupies a different location in Graz, Austria, creating a campus-like situation with exhibition spaces, a festival center and a bar: moving around in the city, leaving a trail of transformation and change of perspective on sites or buildings previously connotated with different use and horizon. For the festival of 2014, steirischer herbst chose to reside in a baroque palais in an inner city block - which had exclusively been a police site inaccessible to the public. While the police now still houses func...

Restoring a Water Bank

Context The project has two key ideas, but only one aim: regaining the deconstructed bank and facilitating contact between locals, and implicitly developing the local community in a world where communities no longer exist. To some extent, mills were places with a community feature to them and consequently, with a little bit of luck, the place left behind on this site can be used as such, in today’s world when there are almost no more communities, but only individuals trying to create practically impenetrable bubbles around them. The first step was to sketch an ordered personal space...

EU Pavilion

CONTEXT The idea of making a structure somebody could enter into, and be surrounded by, is a response to the need for an artwork that would transform a public space, reviving it. It is comprised of three elements: ground, space and structure. Roots and heritage are represented by the traditional carpet interpreted on the ground while our European aspirations are represented by the structure itself. Based on “EU barcode” (AMO/Rem Koolhaas, 2001) EU member's flags are layered and painted in recycled wood, forming a house shaped space, as the most representative form of the “home”, a s...

The Bridge

CONTEXT For each traveler - Man, there is a past, a future and the present – the crossing – the Bridge. These two directions towards plus infinity and minus infinity are also part of an existing bridge. Polarity arises when the act of building is recorded. From this moment on it can be a tool that ties / weaves together shores, people, events, memories, the way synapses unite neurons to create something complex, something complex that transforms a new born into an adult. Something that changes polarity when it disappears. We came up with the idea after we saw the river and we f...

Chsn – Ksc

**Context** At one time, we all moved in our separate directions, trying to identify the similarities and differences of ourselves as a nation, with all internal and external attributes, but at one moment we all became hostages of a new form of self-organization of our internal and external space. The formation of these factors contributed to launch the processes of our depersonalization, in something gray and uniform, while rejecting the natural conditions in which we existed at that time. Given the historical reality, we have a time period of going in one directi...

Berlin UNLIMITED

Context UNLIMITED festival «Berlin, dein Gesicht hat Sommersprossen» («Berlin, your face has freckles») is the title of the song by Hildegard Knef from 1966. It depicts – 25 years after the fall of the wall and almost 70 years after the last war – the outcome of an era of disruption for the city. Along the 20th century Berlin revealed an extraordinary dynamism in response to exceptional circumstances, themselves brought about by a remarkable succession of geo-political events and historical shifts. At different times within the century the city on the river Spree became a capital of th...

Shed and Sauna

Shed project Context “All things come into being by conflict of opposites, and the whole flows like a stream.” (Diogenes Laërtius on Heraclitus) The constant inner movement of a community can be traced through the emerging architecture on their land. The establishing of a new home is influenced by the impact of nature and whole heart edideology as well as the actual social and built rural environment. Two small buildings of the same community are chosen to represent two parallel approaches behind the drifting contemporary architecture of the Hungarian village.  Back in 2010, opp...

The Straw Box

ANGELO ROVENŢA – The Straw Box CONTEXT The project was completed in September 2015 in the Alpine- Carpathian – Danube area, specifically in the region known as Bregenzerwald, an Alpine plateau situated between lake Konstanz and the Danube springs. The local cultural space is defined by an object of great architectural value: the traditional household. A wooden building positioned on a massive stone footing houses an impressive array of built spaces under the same roof: the house and necessary household annexes. With the general state of welfare generalized in the second half of the...

The project was testing the space for its future use as Kunsthalle.

The Table in the Garden

CONTEXT It could be different… There will always be “a different” choice than the one to combine an element with another, to add a comma or a full stop, to follow one road or another. The questions that arise are: where do you stop and act? how do you make a choice when faced with an infinity of possibilities and combinations? how do you decide that this nail needs to be hammered into this table? Towards a table that my thoughts are headed to. A history made up of travels that left their mark on us and grew in time overlapping each other as the lenses of a movie projector, turn...
