Prof. Alberto Pérez-Gómez, President of the Jury

On behalf of the Jury of the competition of the East Centric Architecture Triennale, I would like to congratulate all our enthusiastic participants. We received a remarkable collection of essays on a wide variety of subjects, ranging from history to theory, from urban analysis to design pedagogies, all motivated by a desire to consider the possibilities of a high quality, more significant architecture in the East-central European context, more resonant with the landscape, the heritage and the values and aspirations of cultures.

The members of the jury considered each essay independently and made an initial selection in an objective and unbiased form, which was centrally tabulated to determine eleven finalists. It became evident that we all had difficulties with the diversity of the approaches and interests, for sometimes it was very difficult to compare the evident merits of works. The jury decided to divide the papers between those whose approach was more theoretical and those with more practical interests, in order to eventually award two prizes. The jury looks forward to the presentation of the selected papers at the Triennale and will make its final determination though careful deliberation after the presentation sessions.

Good luck to all the finalists!
