The project consultants of the 2016 edition are: Dragoș Dascălu and Alex Axinte and Cristi Borcan – both from studioBASAR.
Dragoș Dascălu is an architect and teaching assistant at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning Cluj-Napoca. Since 2014 he has a PhD in architecture with a research on „Relational architectures”, in which he focused on the relationship between the architectural process and some of the social mechanisms behind social interaction – trust, familiarity and disequilibrium. Since 2012 he is a member of two NGOs with activities in architecture and urban development: PLUSMINUS and the „Center for the Built Environment”. Some of the projects he worked in include „StartUp Petrila. Industrial heritage as source for urban regeneration”, „Urbanization and rural cultural landscapes – Drăguș” or „Instruments for NGOs access to justice in construction, urbanism, environment and heritage protection” (alongside the Save Bucharest association). He is a permanent collaborator with the TIMPUL cultural magazine and he collaborated several times with the Arhitext architecture magazine since 2011.
studioBASAR was established in 2006 by Alex Axinte and Cristi Borcan, both as an architectural studio and a public space practice. studioBASAR’s projects range from art installations, urban research, educational workshops and public space interventions, to competitions and different typologies of residential and public buildings. In 2010 studioBASAR published the book Evicting the Ghost. Architectures of Survival which was awarded Best Book Award at the Bucharest Architectural Annual. The Public Bath was a finalist project for the European Prize for Public Space 2014. Between 2014 and 2015 studioBASAR was part of the Urban Spaces in Action project, that received the 2016 Prize for Urban Intervention and Social Activation awarded by AFCN (National Cultural Fund). In 2016, Alex Axinte and Cristi Borcan are the curators of One Architecture Week in Plovidiv, Bulgaria.
